On a sad note, we lost a member of our family this week...Gizmo passed away Wednesday night. These are the last two photos that I took of him, from the week before:

His passing was quite a surprise to us. He had been sleeping a little more than usual but otherwise acting completely normal (especially considering all he's been through with Bradley and moving to CA). Then Monday we noticed he hadn't eaten anything all day. He vomited and then slowly laid down and was breathing heavy. We took him to the vet that night where they did xrays and bloodwork, followed by ultrasound of his chest. Basically his entire chest cavity was filled with a solid mass, probably lymphoma. Unfortunately, Gizmo was a very sick cat pretty quickly...not eating and having a lot of trouble breathing. We could have given him a feeding tube and put him in a kitty ICU, with potential chemo to slow down the cancer but since he was so sick the chances weren't good. Very very sadly, we decided not to put him through any more misery. Our last visit with him on Wednesday was very hard but he managed to jump from the cage into my lap and snuggled up with me for one last cuddle. Definitely the hardest thing I've ever had to do.
Gizmo entered my life in 2004 as a tiny kitten after I graduated from college. He moved with me from PA to CT when I started grad school and was my roommate while I lived alone there. I credit him with making me smile through a rough transition to a new city by myself and a very grueling program at Yale. When I met Adam, he was initially less than thrilled about Gizmo but the two grew to really enjoy each other. I'm very sad that Bradley will never get to play with Gizmo because he missed out on an awesome creature.

He will be forever missed.
