3 Months old

The heat has started to arrive in Southern California! Even though it is still cooler in the evenings, I think it's time for Operation Air Conditioner to commence. We have no central AC and so will have to deal with a window unit while we live here. We've been spending our weekends doing different hikes in the area and will probably take a break from that today, too warm!

Closing for our house in Florida remains on track for July 19. We unfortunately had to do some repairs after the inspection came back but otherwise things are going ok.

Bradley is determined to roll over from his front to back. While very cute, I think this spells trouble for us! Once he can do that, no more swaddling at nighttime.

Here he is showing off his arm strength and push up skills:

He's also been enjoying sitting up in his high chair (as long as he has all of his toys!) This is also great for us because we can actually eat breakfast together

his hair is getting way too long, especially for daddy's Mohawk

Looks like he's picking his nose but has actually started to suck his thumb now

12 Weeks Old

Last weekend, we celebrated Adam's first Father's Day! We enjoyed lunch at a local brewery and Bradley had nothing but smiles (and crazy hair) for his daddy :)

We also learned that Bradley is a gifted artist, as evidenced by his creations from day care:

the sun (to celebrate the beginning of summer)

And he's getting more accomplished at putting both his hands and toys into his mouth now. He also has started trying to roll over...we're probably a ways from that but its cute to see him trying.

His first time in his new high chair! Here he is watching daddy make pancakes:

almost 11 weeks old...how did that happen?

We survived our first week of daycare! Adam and I were a little sad to leave him there but it seems like he's been having a blast. He came home the first day with slightly blue feet from doing his first art project (which turned out to be a very cute father's day present for adam!) The daycare workers seem to love Bradley and say that he loves just sitting and looking around, and when they talk to him he gives them huge gummy smiles :)

Here he is snoozin in his daycare crib:

starting to look more like his Maine relatives everyday :)

Gizmo: my best buddy

On a sad note, we lost a member of our family this week...Gizmo passed away Wednesday night. These are the last two photos that I took of him, from the week before:

His passing was quite a surprise to us. He had been sleeping a little more than usual but otherwise acting completely normal (especially considering all he's been through with Bradley and moving to CA). Then Monday we noticed he hadn't eaten anything all day. He vomited and then slowly laid down and was breathing heavy. We took him to the vet that night where they did xrays and bloodwork, followed by ultrasound of his chest. Basically his entire chest cavity was filled with a solid mass, probably lymphoma. Unfortunately, Gizmo was a very sick cat pretty quickly...not eating and having a lot of trouble breathing. We could have given him a feeding tube and put him in a kitty ICU, with potential chemo to slow down the cancer but since he was so sick the chances weren't good. Very very sadly, we decided not to put him through any more misery. Our last visit with him on Wednesday was very hard but he managed to jump from the cage into my lap and snuggled up with me for one last cuddle. Definitely the hardest thing I've ever had to do.

Gizmo entered my life in 2004 as a tiny kitten after I graduated from college. He moved with me from PA to CT when I started grad school and was my roommate while I lived alone there. I credit him with making me smile through a rough transition to a new city by myself and a very grueling program at Yale. When I met Adam, he was initially less than thrilled about Gizmo but the two grew to really enjoy each other. I'm very sad that Bradley will never get to play with Gizmo because he missed out on an awesome creature.
